We are absolutely thrilled that Walt Sepic will be leading this one-day workshop. Walt managed and taught at the Ryan Outdoor Education Centre on Wolfe Island for 22 years, and truly embodies a ‘lifetime of experience’ – he has taught over 70,000 children and adults in all seasons, in the outdoors! For beginner campers, and those who want more advice, or experience, Walt will be leading us through planning, prepping, and problem-solving for camping in all four seasons, whether canoeing or hiking. We will be setting up tents, talking about gear, planning menus and kitchen supplies, and doing ‘all things camping.’
Adults: $60. Includes a camp style lunch.
Children under 12: $30. Includes lunch. Must be accompanied by a parent.

Come prepared for all weather, bring a notebook, and plan on getting dirty. Please bring your own reusable plates/cutlery/ mugs.
This workshop will be held on Wolfe Island, within walking distance of the boat. Please do not bring a car unless absolutely necessary. See ‘Travelling to Wolfe Island’ below.

Walt has taught over 70,000 children and adults in all seasons in the outdoors; over 20,000 in canoes. He developed and directed “Discovery”, a summer high school Phys. Ed. credit course in wilderness canoe tripping in Algonquin Park for 12 years. He also managed and taught at the Ryan Outdoor Education Centre on Wolfe Island for 22 years and directed his school board’s efforts in the “Eco Schools” program to reduce energy use and waste at schools.
Travelling to Wolfe Island:
Wolfe Island is a magical place, but it can sometimes be an adventure to get on or off the island. Patience is required. Weekends are busy and the ferry can be packed. Construction at the terminal exacerbates this.
Though you may be lucky getting your car on with no trouble in one direction, it might be a different story when you go to leave. Also note, whether you are a foot or a car passenger, if there is an ambulance call, picking up the ambulance in Kingston is a priority and the boat will change direction midway in the water, with all cars on it. You will wait to pick up the ambulance in Kingston, then you will wait on the Wolfe Island side to bring the ambulance back… i.e.; you can wait for hours and not actually go anywhere.
NO REFUNDS ARE GIVEN FOR FERRY ISSUES However, if the ferry is out of service on the day of your workshop, we will do our best to reschedule. This will be at the discretion of the instructor and WISE.
All of our workshops are within walking distance of the boat. Being a foot passenger is the easiest and fastest way to get on and off the boat.
Before the date of this workshop, the ferry may be changing ( from the WI 3 to the WI 4) which may alter our start time. We will keep you posted closer to the date.
